Welcome Fr. Carleton Bakkum who has replaced recently-retired Fr. Budd

Fr. Bakkum’s Bio

The Rev. Carleton Bakkum has arrived at St. Stephen’s during the time
between our former interim, Fr. Dick Budd, and our next full-time
priest.  Originally from Dalton, GA, Fr. Bakkum’s M.Div. is from
Princeton Theological Seminary with a Certificate in Anglican Studies
from General Theological Seminary in New York City.  Ordained in the
Diocese of Washington, DC in 1985 and married to Elsa that same year
(they met at Princeton). Fr. Bakkum first served as an assistant at
Trinity Church in Upperville, VA. Next, he was rector of Grace Church in
Yorktown for 30 years until his retirement from full-time ministry two
years ago.  Elsa works full-time as the Assistant Director of Training
for Education for Ministry (EfM) which is based at the seminary in
Sewanee, TN, though she is able to work remotely.  They have three adult
sons; one in San Francisco, one in New York and one in Chattanooga.  Fr.
Bakkum currently teaches at CNU and stays active with a new vegetable
garden, reading, cycling, camping, playing the keyboard and the djembe
drum, doing an occasional folk art piece and now raising two ragdoll
kittens with Elsa.
